The Reserve Force Medal (RFM) was an Australian military long-service award presented to non-commissioned (other ranks) members of the Reserve Forces. Established in April 1982, it recognized 15 years of efficient, remunerated service between February 1975 and April 1999, after which it was replaced by the Defence Long Service Medal. Qualification Criteria
  • Service length: 15 years of efficient service in the Reserve Forces.
  • Reserve requirement: At least 12 years must have been served within the reserves, though up to 3 years of regular (permanent) force service could count.

  • Design and Appearance
  • Shape: An oval cupro-nickel medal surrounded by a gilt wreath of wattle and topped with the Crown of Saint Edward.
  • Obverse: Features the Defence Joint Service Emblem set against a rayed background.
  • Reverse: Inscribed with the words "For Efficient Service in the Reserve Forces".
  • Ribbon: Composed of equal vertical stripes of azure-blue and gold (Australia's national colors at the time of its creation). [1, 2, 3, 4]
